We didn&#8217;t need much persuasion. Single-digit temperatures in Madison provided some motivation, but the first-rate program was the decisive factor. \u00a0We&#8217;re grateful to our old friend (and former student) <strong>Alissa Simon<\/strong>, one of the PSIFF&#8217;s programmers, for helping arrange our visit, and to <strong>Emily Davis<\/strong> and <strong>Steve Wilson<\/strong> for being maximally welcoming.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve already seen about a dozen films, and once we get some time in the next few days we&#8217;ll be writing up our responses to such extraordinary movies as <em>Tokyo Sonata<\/em> (Kurosawa Kiyoshi), <em>The Shaft<\/em> (Zhang Chi), <em>Tulpan<\/em> (Sergey Dvortsevoy), <em>Four Nights with Anna<\/em> (Jerzy Skolimowski), and several more. For now, let this snapshot of the lively Skolimowski stand in for the dispatch we will be posting later this week.
